Coffee, Coffee, Coffee LOVE

July 27th, 2016

I want to write an ode to coffee. I do love it so.

I remember the first time I had a cup of coffee. I was 15 years old, I drank it black, and I LOVED it! I simply loved it. I loved the smell of it and the taste, and how amazing it made me feel!

Coffee truly fixes everything in my world. Just the smell of coffee when I walk into a coffee shop or grind it at home. It’s like, “Ahhhhh, everything is […]

11 Ways to Get Better Sleep

July 27th, 2016

I sometimes say that deadlifts fix everything. That is partially true from a musculoskeletal standpoint. However, the real magic is in the rest period.

Sleep is truly the magic fix for what ails you.

I realize that many of you reading this have sleep issues. I had a few years of insomnia myself when I was first building my practice. It was simply terrible.

If you are not sleeping well you can guarantee that it is negatively impacting your pain. Pain is turned down when […]

Blueberry Coconut Cream Protein Slurry Recipe

July 18th, 2016

Whew! That’s a long title. Be forewarned, it looks kind of yucky, but it is SO tasty good and protein-packed.

This is my go-to after a workout (or for breakfast) this time of year. Super easy, fast and yummy.

I specifically use the PurePaleo Protein from Designs for Health because it’s quite creamy when you mix it.

Only one small bit of prep-work needs to be done, and that is to take a can of organic, full-fat coconut milk (in the ethnic foods section), scoop […]

Deadlifts Make You Sexy

July 18th, 2016

It’s no secret, I LOVE deadlifts. I can’t explain why, but just the thought of doing them makes me smile. There is something so primally satisfying about picking up something REALLY heavy off the floor and putting it back down. Sometimes I let the really heavy ones slam down a little at the bottom, which makes me laugh out loud! My personal record on the deadlift is 200 pounds. That is over one-and-a-half times my body weight!

If I can do it, anyone can do it. I […]

Summer Protein Coffee Cooler “Frap” Recipe

June 24th, 2016

For these warm days ahead I wanted to share my new favorite drink recipe with you! It’s high in protein, with some healthy fats for taste, and gives you a nice dose of coffee (a wonderful herb in my opinion).

It’s just 3 ingredients, very simple, and super refreshing!

I personally start with French pressed coffee from freshly ground beans (antioxidant and polyphenol count is highest in freshly ground beans), add some organic, full-fat coconut milk (from a can), a scoop of my favorite protein powder, […]

Collagen: The Joint Builder

June 21st, 2016

One of the most potent supplements that I prescribe to my patients is pure collagen. Think about it– our joints are made out of the stuff! Also our hair, nails, skin, tendons, ligaments, cartilage… all contain collagen.

There are a few types of collagen to be aware of. Type 2 is what the cartilage inside of our joints is made out of. When people say they are “bone on bone” it’s this cartilage that they have lost. Types 1 and 3 are more […]

Protein Powder– Which Whey to go?

June 2nd, 2016

I recently shared my favorite smoothie recipe in my weekly newsletter, and immediately received many emails asking me about my thoughts on protein powder, and why I recommend whey protein above other sources.

A short lesson on protein powders without getting too technical:

1) What kind? I recommend whey protein powder for a number of reasons. Most notably, studies have shown that it combats belly fat, heal leaky gut, and is an excellent source of amino acids that aid in building muscle mass. Pea and hemp […]

Dr. Tyna’s “Joint Juice” Green Smoothie Recipe

June 1st, 2016

Did you know that your diet can help your joints regenerate? Remember how your grandmother used to tell you to eat collagen powder or pills for your nails and hair? Well, she was correct. This same idea holds true for your joints. Joints are made of collagen and we need to eat it in order to synthesize it in our joints.

This is our famous collagen green smoothie and it contains a ton of joint-health promoting collagen, protein, iron, and fats. Best of all, it’s delicious!

  – 1/2 cup organic frozen […]
